Cornell - Willard Straight Hall, Fifth Floor Lounge 519

Thursdays: 2.22, 3.1, 3.8, 3.15, 3.22, 3.29

This series teaches the fundamentals of Salsa, Bachata and Cha Cha Cha technique and repertoire, with our main focus on Salsa. All genres can be danced individually, as a couple, or in a group. Rueda ("wheel") in any genre is danced among multiple couples via call and response. Rueda is also a teaching method that expedites social dance learning by emphasizing energy flow, repetition and partner rotation. Participants acquire skills in timing, body movement, lead-follow technique, space use, footwork, turns and combinations. Music is provided, video recording allowed and dance performance opportunity available.

Salsa and Bachata Beginner 1 6:-7:30pm
Classes brought to you by Proyecto Palante.

This series covers the fundamentals of timing, rhythm, body movement, lead-follow connection, basic step patterns and partner combinations in Salsa and Bachata, two of the world's most popular social dances. The first hour focuses on Salsa, and the last half hour on Bachata, with a short break in between. Bachata has origins in bolero, and was made widely popular in the Dominican Republic. Its slow tempo, high pitch and pop creates a smooth, sensual feel. Both Salsa and Bachata work off of a three-four musical timing and rely on strong lead-follow connection.
